Dani Harmer has revealed what it was like reuniting with her The Story of Tracy Beaker co-stars after almost 20 years for her upcoming drama about the iconic character. Based on Jacqueline Wilson’s 2018 book of the same name, My Mum Tracy Beaker follows the former Dumping Ground resident as a now-30-something as she raises her 10-year-old daughter Jess (Emma Maggie Davies). Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com for The Big RT Interview, Harmer said that it was “so nice” to see her cast members from the early days of Tracy Beaker. ‘It’s all the drama Mick, I just love it!’ Keep up to date with all the dramas – from period to crime to comedy Thanks for signing up to our drama newsletter! Immediate Media Company Limited (publishers of radiotimes.com) would love to send you our Drama newsletters. Harmer added that she loved catching up Montanna Thompson, who plays Tracy’s former nemesis Justine Littlewood, and chatting about their real-life children. She’s a mum now herself so we were kind of swapping loads of stories about what we’ve been up to do with our kids and stuff. The three-part series follows Tracy and Jess as their lives are transformed with the arrival of Tracy’s rich new boyfriend, Sean Godfrey (Jordan Duvigneau) and sees Coleman, Thompson and Bridgerton’s Ruth Gemmell reprise their roles from The Story of Tracy Beaker, which aired from 2002 until 2006.

The Big RT Interview with Dani Harmer is coming soon on RadioTimes.com. My Mum Tracy Beaker premieres on CBBC and BBC iPlayer on 12th February. Tracy Beaker is officially back – and we’ve got juicy details about her new show. The original CBBC Jacqueline Wilson series was a hit with millennial kids and tweens, and made central cast member Dani Harmer famous. And now Dani is back alongside a string of OG cast members, and some new additions, too, for a new series based on Wilson’s book of the same name. The series – which has already started filming – will focus on Tracy (Dani Harmer) and her daughter Jess (Emma Maggie Davies), as they try to navigate life as a power duo – maintaining the perfect mother-daughter bond that Tracy never had. That is, until Tracy’s rich former pal, ‘Football’ – real name Sean Godfrey (Jordan Duvigneau) – comes along and sweeps her off her feet. But when everything starts to go “classically Tracy Beaker pear-shaped”, can Tracy’s daughter save the day? Speaking ahead of the release of the new series – named My Mum Tracy Beaker – returning protagonist Dani Harmer teased: “So Tracy now is a mum! Which is amazing, I think the last time we saw her she was working as a care worker in her 20s. “Now she’s in her 30s and she’s a mum, so it’s been really cool for me because like everyone else, I really wanted to know what happened next and where Tracy’s journey is going to take her.” She added: “I think everyone is going to be really pleased seeing how Tracy’s progressed and what a great mum she is.” Dani went on to explain that the arrival of Sean adds a bit of excitement back into Tracy’s life, and brings out her character’s “wild” side again. The original CBBC series made a star of Dani (Credit: BBC) “Sean turning up out of the blue is a bit of a shock for Tracy. “I think when Tracy first sees him, it’s not an instant attraction,it’s almost a bit like nostalgia, when you see someone from your childhood and you immediately go back to being that age again. When you’re a mum, you kind of lose who you used to be a bit, and with Sean coming back into the picture, Tracy is reminded of what she used to be like when she was younger. “A bit crazy, free and more wild…I think she did miss that side of herself, so with Sean showing up it brings it back again”.

Meanwhile, her on-screen daughter Emma Maggie Davies, who plays little Jess, said her character wasn’t as happy with Sean’s return as her mum. “Jess worries that Sean might take her mum away and take her place, that it might affect their bond together, that it might not be as strong…,” she explained. She went on to gush that she thinks fans of the show will enjoy “seeing Tracy as a mum” as the show depicts a new stage of her life. “Tracy is a very feisty character and she’s still as feisty as ever,” Emma jokes. “I think they’ll love the girl power [the series] as well. “It’s so warming in the scenes when it’s just Tracy and Jess, because they’ve such a strong bond”. Also appearing in the new series is Tracy’s adopted mum Cam (Lisa Coleman), her enemy Justine Littlewood (Montanna Thompson) and her birth mum Carly (Ruth Gemmell) – most recently recognisable for starring in Netflix hit Bridgerton. In case you need a reminder, The Story of Tracy Beaker first aired in 2002. The series followed a ten-year-old girl living in a children’s residential care home nicknamed the “Dumping Ground”. The show later made a comeback for Tracy Beaker Returns, which aired between 2010 and 2012, and showed Tracy as a care worker. Tracy Beaker is back and feistier than ever as she becomes a mum – and Dani Harmer has now teased what’s in store. After meeting the unstoppable ball of energy in the Dumping Ground 20 years ago, Tracy (played by Dani) is returning to our screens with a daughter of her own, Jess (Emma Maggie Davies), to care for. In My Mum, Tracy Beaker, Jess and Tracy couldn’t be more different if they tried, their bond is as strong as anything – and things seem to be on the up for the duo as Tracy finds herself a fancy boyfriend. Jordan Duvigneau will play Sean, who was best known as Football during Tracy’s younger years and is now a successful footballer – and after all these years still holds a torch for Tracy. As the pair prepare for a new life together, obviously it doesn’t take long for things to start going wrong – and for old frenemies like Justine Littlewood (Montanna Thompson) to rear their ugly heads just at the wrong moment for Tracy. Speaking about what’s to come, actress Dani teased: ‘The audience will be very pleased to know that Justine Littlewood is coming back. Tracy’s daughter will prove to have a knack of getting in trouble just like her mum (Picture: BBC) ‘I mean, Tracy and Justine have obviously butted heads since they were younger – and nothing’s changed there really.’ The upcoming three special episodes marks the 30th anniversary of the Tracy Beaker books, written by Jacqueline Wilson. Tracy is all grown up after her time in the Dumping Ground (Picture: BBC) Emma was revealed to be playing Jess back in October, and said she was thrilled that her first big role was playing the iconic character’s daughter. ‘It was so awesome to start work on the show as me and my brother have watched Tracy Beaker for as long as I can remember, we are huge fans!’ she said. My Mum, Tracy Beaker is yet to be given a release date by CBBC.
